A beating heart

Where do I search for the smiles

Hiding in a closet, with broken toys

Looking outside the window, nothing for miles

And then I catch a glimpse

A wrinkled memory fading into the distance

I hold on tight and play it on repeat

It slips through anyway

And the demons arrive with a treat

Faces in the distance call out to me

But the waves are too high and the void too deep

Everything pulls me away

Yet there’s something that makes me stay

The touch, the smell, the breath engulfs me

His smile is all the love i ever need

His hugs are all the warmth I ever want

The silence reaffirms his presence

Miles away yet in sync with my every pulse

The blinding light drives me insane

I close my eyes, and hold his hand

Resisting the life I need to feign
